About the Academy

Founded in 1998, Ashland Academy of Music continues to provide professional private music lessons at a reasonable, hometown price. We are dedicated to promoting healthy, smart, and happy students through music. Our teaching staff is exceptional, not only as educators and performers, but also as individuals. They are there helping, in every way possible, to insure the most educationally rewarding and enjoyable experience for each student. Please feel free to converse with your teacher should any questions or concerns arise.

Lesson Policies
Lesson times will be set up on an individual basis through the instructor.  Please email ashland.academy@yahoo.com for more infomation and current openings.  Lesson rates vary between teachers, but break down to $28 - $35 for each 30 minute lesson.

All lessons are paid for by the month, at the beginning of the month.  If tuition is not received by the 10th of each month, there will be an additional $10 late fee applied.  Tuition should be paid at the studio (cash or check to “Ashland Academy”), utilizing Venmo (@Ashland-Music), mailed to :

Ashland Academy of Music

750 Stillwater Road

Mahtomedi, MN

or directly through your online banking account (use the above mailing address for this service).   There will be a $30 fee charged for returned checks.  Sorry, no credit cards are currently accepted.

You will receive a “friendly reminder” at the end of each month regarding lessons for the month coming.  This will include tuition amount and any other pertinent information from your teacher.

Being a member of Ashland Academy of Music also allows you to rent the large space in the back (upstairs or downstairs) at a reduced rate, use of the available room on the lower level for practice and warm-up,  desk areas for homework needs, 2 bathrooms, and a safe learning environment. Appointments to use the computer music programs are set up by your instructor and may not be applicable to all instruments. Please check with your instructor to see if they have installed a program that may be beneficial for you.

If you know you will need to miss a lesson during any given month, let your teacher know as soon as possible.  This will insure quick and efficient rescheduled lessons (see “make- up lessons” below and on the attached sheet for requirements).*  Each teacher is responsible for setting up and maintaining their studio schedule, so please talk with them should conflicts arise in your lesson time.  You are expected to pay for every lesson that the instructor is able to give.  Each teacher is given the freedom to decide how they would like to address make-up/rescheduled lessons. **

Any books, staff paper, note cards, reeds, accessories, strings, binders, metronomes, etc. that need to be purchased by the student are not included in the tuition fee.  Many teachers prefer to purchase needed materials themselves.  This insures that each student has the proper materials needed.  All of these items will be a separate charge, payable to the instructor.  Thank-you for your future commitment and sacrifices made for the benefit of the student.

If you plan on quitting lessons, even for a short time, please provide your teacher with at least two weeks notice.  This will allow the students waiting to get into lessons with that opportunity.

*Repeated disrespect of lesson requirements will result in termination of lessons.

**Lessons that are canceled by the instructor will always be made-up or credited.

Student Requirements

All students are required to practice as recommended and bring all materials to each lesson.  They are also encouraged to ask questions and be as enthusiastic as possible to help further their musical knowledge.  Parents are encouraged to support their children and should feel free to talk with their instructor about the progress.

Please arrive on time for your lesson.  It is very difficult for teachers to stay “on schedule” when students are late or parents take up too much time after the lesson conversing with the instructor.  If you know that you need to address something that may take more than a couple of minutes, please make other arrangements to talk with your instructor at a more convenient time.  If a student has not showed up within the first 15 minutes of the scheduled lesson, the teacher reserves the right to consider the lesson a “No Show”.

Practice quantity will vary from student to student and from instructor to instructor.  Please practice as recommended and follow all goals given by your instructor!  Remember that the greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it!!

Make-Up/Rescheduled Lessons

If you have a conflict with a lesson for any reason, please call, text or email your instructor directly. If you are unable to reach them, feel free to send an email to ashland.academy@yahoo.com. It is best to inform your instructor of a conflict as soon as possible as more times may be available and adequate to the musical development of the student.  It is also recommended that you ALWAYS leave a reason for your absence when you call.  It is a common courtesy that will also be extended to you should your instructor need to reschedule or cancel a scheduled lesson.  We fully understand that true and honest “emergencies” may arise.  They will be dealt with on an individual basis.  Each instructor has additional guidelines to follow for rescheduling lessons.  Please check with them about non-emergency absences and other requirements.

The Ashland Academy teachers have many different teaching techniques and styles that will benefit the individual needs of each student.  We are as flexible as possible when dealing with the scheduling of lessons, but do not like being taken advantage of.  We do not wish to offend anyone with this policy; however this is our chosen career and needs to be treated as such.  We will always resolve conflicts with the best interest of all parties involved.
